Reggie Woods
"Keep Swingin Baby"
Reginald Woods (Reggie) was born and raised in Jamaica, Queens, New York.
His mother, an artist, and his father, an aspiring saxophonist always kept music an integral part of home life. Reginald’s father always kept an extensive record collection that reflected the multifaceted genres of music that defined the black experience, Jazz, Blues, Gospel, Funk, and Disco.
One of Reggie’s fondest memories was the family gathering on the weekends. Everyone would listen to music, dance, play cards and eat good food. The children would be the additional live entertainment. It was during these family functions that Reggie fell in love with performing.
Reggie attended Public School 121 in Ozone Park and Middle School 210, The Elizabeth Blackwell Jr. High School in Howard beach. He was a good student, and the area he most excelled in was music. Reggie did find peace and acceptance in his music classes. He immersed himself and excelled at music. He went on to attend Hillcrest High School.
Hearing of open auditions for a full scholarship at Five Towns College, Reggie had his friends drop him by the college to audition. The next day he received a call from Five Towns College with an offer of a full Scholarship.
Five Towns College granted an Associate of Applied Science in Music Performance. He matriculated to Long Island University to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance and then went on to New York University to receive a Master of Arts in Music Education (Music Teacher Certification).
